Topic: Sabbath and the Mark Of The Beast Part 2

Subtopic: The Sabbath as a defining apparatus.

The term Mark of the beast is found in this verse:

Rev 13:17 KJV And that no man might buy or sell, save he that had the mark, or the name of the beast, or the number of his name.
It's very clear from that verse, that we can not know what the mark of the beast is.

However chapter 14 of the same book gives us a clue on how to think with regards to the mark of the beast:

Rev 14:9-12 KJV *9* And the third angel followed them, saying with a loud voice, *If any man worship the beast and his image, and receive his mark* in his forehead, or in his hand, *10* The same shall drink of the wine of the wrath of God, which is poured out without mixture into the cup of his indignation; and he shall be tormented with fire and brimstone in the presence of the holy angels, and in the presence of the Lamb: *11* And the smoke of their torment ascendeth up for ever and ever: *and they have no rest day nor night, who worship the beast and his image, and whosoever receiveth the mark of his name* . *12* Here is the patience of the saints: here are they that keep the commandments of God, and the faith of Jesus.

There's a clear admonition against the worship of other gods, the definition of worshipping other gods is the reception of the mark of the beast.

What is the mark of the beast?

That which prohibits *buying and selling* .

The Sabbath commandment states that...

Exo 20:9-10 KJV 9 Six days shalt thou labour, and do all thy work: 10 But the seventh day is the sabbath of the LORD thy God: *in it thou shalt not do any work, thou, nor thy son, nor thy daughter, thy manservant, nor thy maidservant, nor thy cattle, nor thy stranger that is within thy gates:*

This commandment forbids the gathering of income on it. The catagory of resting individuals includes those that are income generating(servants and children and tools).

If then the mark of the beast also is a forbearance on the gathering of wealth ie "buying and selling", then the Mark of the beast becomes a counterfeit Seventh day Sabbath.

This phrase *and they have no rest day nor night, who worship the beast and his image, and whosoever receiveth the mark of his name* , reminds us that they had refused to rest while probation still pleaded for them.

But now God is giving them the desires of their hearts, *not resting* , because they had forever transgressed that commandment which commanded rest but now they are made to suffer in a way that will show what their transgression had been all along, observing a spurious sabbath which was an anti Seventh day Sabbath legislation.

The contrast is *here is the patience of the saints: here are they that keep the commandments of God, and the faith of Jesus*
