Exo 20:9-10 KJV 9 Six days shalt thou labour, and do all thy work: 10 But the seventh day is the sabbath of the LORD thy God..

The terms 'Six and Seven' remind us of the Genesis 1 account. One question that needs to be answered is 'How do we know which day is the Sabbath?

The genius of the biblical narrative is it's grammar.

The nature of the grammar makes it such that the day, *though unknown by name* , can be clearly identifiable by position.
The term " *But the seventh day is the sabbath* "... Tells us whenever the sixth day is,  the Sabbath is the day following.

The Nativity story tells us that the birth of Jesus was identified by a Star. Implying that those who were studying the sky where able to identify the day when Jesus was born through the study of Astronomy. The death of Jesus is said to have occurred three days before the first day...

Mat 27:64 KJV Command therefore that the sepulchre be made sure until the *third day* , lest his disciples come by night, and steal him away, and say unto the people, He is risen from the dead: so the last error shall be worse than the first.

*The account goes on to tell us that:*

Mat 28:1 KJV In the end of the sabbath, as it began to *dawn toward the first day of the week,* came Mary Magdalene and the other Mary to see the sepulchre.

And on the first day of the week Jesus had risen. So if we extrapolate backwards...
Jesus was to rise three days after his death and seeing that he rose on the first day then we can extrapolate backwards....

First day of the week (day 3)
Seventh day of the week (day 2)
Sixth day of the week (day 1)

First day of the week today is known as  Sunday and the Sixth day of the week is known today as Friday. And what's in between is The seventh day also known as the Sabbath.

The genius of Exodus 20: 8 and 9 is that even if you start your week on Tuesday there will always be a Seventh Day to keep. Synchroniously our Seventh Day Sabbath is Saturday....

Luk 23:54 & 56 KJV 54 And that day was the preparation(παρασκευή, (Friday)¹), and the sabbath(this would be Saturday) drew on...56 And they returned, and prepared spices and ointments; and rested the sabbath day(on Saturday) according to the commandment.

Reference.

1). *'Google translate'* translated the term παρασκευή as Friday.
